The long and the short story of La Promenade Fleury
The idea of a semi-pedestrian mall first took shape in the mind of Yvon Lamarra, the Fleury Street municipal administrator, in the fall of 1980. The next winter, the city went on to develop a land-use project for the commercial artery. Merchants were then consulted during public hearings before construction work started in 1981. On December 17, 1984, the Société d'Initiative et de Développement d'une Artère Commerciale (S.I.D.A.C.) of La Promenade Fleury was founded, thus completing a long history of commercial activity that began at the turn of the century.
Over the past twenty years, La Promenade Fleury has endeavoured to maintain the dynamism of the artery, draw in an excellent range of businesses and act as a significant economic agent in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough. Much was done over those two decades.
